Presentation of Transits and Solar Returns, Fourth Edition, in English.
It is with great satisfaction, and with a touch of emotion, that I announce the birth of this new creation: 760 pages, approximately 15 × 22.5 centimetres in size, printed on paper and bound as a paperback.
I believe that, indirectly, these pages also contain the story of my personal journey since, more than half a century ago, in 1970, the idea of Active Astrology first flashed through my mind.
I studied day and night, and the hours of study, the many books and the countless consultations were never enough for me. Indeed, I came close to giving up altogether: “But then,” I said to myself, “if we can see the future so clearly and yet can do nothing to change it, this knowledge is not only useless—it is downright immoral!”
Already during that first year, however, when I would not let so much as a comma escape me in the books I was reading, I came across this sentence in one of the books by my teacher, André Barbault: “The Solar Return chart must be domified for the place of residence at the moment of the return, and not for the place of birth!”
“There it is!” I exclaimed.
But both my teacher and almost all my colleagues, yesterday and today, said that it could not possibly work…
This is not the place to discuss the matter, and several of my books are devoted specifically to this subject. But the fact remains that, for the first few decades, everyone called me crazy, whereas today 99.99% of the astrologers in the world claim that they themselves were recommending Aimed Solar Returns in their previous lives…
None of this interests me very much, and I doubt that it interests you either.
What matters most to me is to help you understand the journey that has brought me to this point. The second edition of my best-known and most successful book worldwide, when it was published by the prestigious American Federation of Astrologers, ran to 240 pages. The fourth edition, which I published in print in Italy last July, contained 673 pages; and the edition appearing today in the United States, in print, runs to no fewer than 760 pages!
As for the contents, I leave the judgement to my Readers, and I shall remind you only of what I have always asked: test my rules and, if they do not work, throw my book away or burn it. But if they do work, then always keep it close at hand and consult it constantly.
And this is why I subjected myself to this further enormous effort. Together with ChatGPT, ASTRA and Work, which worked on the translation and revision, I worked twice as hard as usual, and I can now present you with this substantial volume which, from my point of view, becomes, as of today, the reference work of my school of Active Astrology, Aimed Solar Returns and Aimed Lunar Returns.

The fourth edition of Transits and Solar Returns appears six years after the previous one and has been expanded by approximately eighty pages.
I felt this new edition was necessary, first to resolve a minor technical issue that had made a few lines of text illegible, and second because I wanted to be a bit kinder to myself—and to the reader—by avoiding the need to decipher pages of notes printed in minuscule font size. I have also decided to add a new afterword covering three topics I consider fundamental to a book of this kind:
• A chapter explaining how to interpret celestial bodies positioned on the cusps—whether in a natal chart, a Solar Return, or a Lunar Return—between two Houses or at the four angles of the chart, while distinguishing these interpretations from the Gauquelin zones.
• The reasons why Solar and Lunar Returns must be considered far more powerful than transits.
• Proceeding from the premise that any competent astrologer should be able to calculate and hand-draw natal charts, Solar Returns, and Lunar Returns, I have gone a step further to champion a long-held conviction: to truly master these subjects, one should attempt to construct a Solar Return entirely in one’s mind—without even consulting an ephemeris—and then “fine-tune” it using only the brain (not a computer) by visualizing how the celestial map shifts with changes in geographic longitude. To this end, I have included the full text of a lecture I gave many years ago in Lavagna, near Genoa, during which I publicly demonstrated the very concepts argued in these pages.
Just a couple more things, and then I shall leave you.
I deliberately chose an “exaggerated” price for the American market: $50. For me, this is intended as a sign, a symbol. And those who wish to understand it will understand.
I often find myself discussing the 34 rules with male and female students of mine who would prefer to interpret them differently from me.
This reminds me of an extremely amusing episode involving my favourite book and my favourite writer: Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo.
When, at last, after many long months of waiting, the book was published simultaneously in Paris and New York in April 1862, something extraordinary for those times occurred: from the evening before its release, enormous queues had already begun to form outside the bookshops that were going to sell this magnificent novel.
Its success was sensational.
The writer’s followers multiplied beyond measure.
One of them repeatedly wrote to Hugo, insisting that he wished to be received by him so that he could personally congratulate him.
Hugo finally gave in and received the gentleman, who began talking and simply never stopped. He strongly disagreed with some of the author’s choices and, at a certain point, visibly beside himself, shouted in Hugo’s face:
“You understand absolutely nothing about Les Misérables!”
Now, with all due distinctions—and passing over a letter I once received from a French reader who was among the first to read the beautiful edition of this volume published by the highly prestigious Éditions Traditionnelles and magnificently translated by my friend Claudine Galtieri, in which he simply wrote, “502 pages and you haven’t mentioned God even once. Merde!”—I think instead of the fact that more than one of my students, male and female, would sometimes like to challenge me to a duel over how one or more of the 34 rules actually work, and ends up exclaiming:
“You haven’t understood anything about the 34 rules!”

È davvero con grande soddisfazione e con un pizzico di emozione che annuncio la nascita di questa creatura: 760 pagine, nel formato di circa 15 × 22,5 centimetri, su carta e con copertina flessibile.
Penso che qui vi sia, indirettamente, la storia del mio percorso personale da quando, oltre mezzo secolo fa, nel 1970, balenò per la prima volta nella mia mente l’idea dell’Astrologia Attiva.
Studiavo giorno e notte e le ore di studio, i tanti libri e i molti consulti non mi bastavano mai; anzi, fui sul punto di abbandonare: «Ma allora — mi dissi — se noi riusciamo a vedere così chiaramente e non possiamo far nulla per cambiare il nostro futuro, non solo questo sapere è inutile, ma è addirittura immorale!».
Già il primo anno, però, quando non mi perdevo neanche una virgola dei libri che leggevo, lessi in uno di quelli del mio maestro André Barbault: «Il cielo di Rivoluzione Solare va domificato per il luogo di residenza nel momento del return e non per quello di nascita!».
«Eccolo!», esclamai.
Ma sia il mio maestro sia la quasi totalità dei miei colleghi, di ieri e di oggi, dissero che la cosa non poteva funzionare…
Non è questa la sede per discutere di ciò e ci sono diversi miei libri dedicati a tale argomento, ma è un fatto che per i primi decenni mi diedero tutti del pazzo e oggi il 99,99% degli astrologi del mondo afferma che loro stessi consigliavano Aimed Solar Returns già dalle vite precedenti…
Tutto ciò non mi interessa e credo non interessi neanche a voi.
Ciò che mi sta più a cuore è farvi comprendere il percorso che mi ha portato fin qui: la seconda edizione del mio libro più famoso e di maggiore successo nel mondo, quando fu pubblicata dalla prestigiosa American Federation of Astrologers, contava 240 pagine. La quarta edizione, che ho pubblicato su carta in Italia nel luglio scorso, ne contava 673; quella che vede la luce oggi, negli USA, su carta, conta ben 760 pagine!
Sui contenuti lascio giudicare i Lettori e vi ricordo solo quello che chiedo da sempre: provate le mie regole e, se non funzionano, gettate o bruciate il mio libro. Ma, se funzionano, allora tenetelo sempre a portata di mano per consultarlo continuamente.
Ed ecco perché mi sono sottoposto a questa ulteriore enorme fatica. Insieme a ChatGPT, ASTRA e Work, che hanno lavorato alla traduzione e alla revisione (della traduzione), ho lavorato il doppio del solito e posso presentarvi adesso questo tomo che, dal mio punto di vista, è, da oggi, il punto di riferimento della mia scuola di Astrologia Attiva, delle Aimed Solar Returns e delle Aimed Lunar Returns.
Quella che segue è la breve prefazione a tale edizione:
La quarta edizione di “Transiti e Rivoluzioni Solari” esce a sei anni di distanza dalla precedente, arricchita di circa ottanta pagine.
Ho ritenuto necessario, innanzitutto, risolvere un piccolo problema tecnico che rendeva illeggibili alcune righe di testo; inoltre, mi è sembrato giusto concedermi un po’ più di indulgenza, evitando di costringere i lettori a decifrare pagine di note stampate con caratteri minuscoli. Ho deciso anche di aggiungere una nuova postfazione che tratta tre argomenti da me ritenuti fondamentali per un’opera di questo genere:
• Il capitolo dedicato alla lettura dei corpi celesti situati su una cuspide — che si tratti di Tema Natale, Rivoluzione Solare o Rivoluzione Lunare — tra due Case, oppure in corrispondenza dei quattro angoli del cielo, distinguendone l’interpretazione da quella relativa alle zone Gauquelin.
• Le ragioni per cui le Rivoluzioni Solari e Lunari vanno considerate molto più potenti dei transiti.
• Partendo dal presupposto che ogni buon astrologo debba saper calcolare e tracciare a mano un tema natale, una Rivoluzione Solare e una Rivoluzione Lunare, mi sono spinto oltre, sostenendo una tesi che ho sempre promosso: per padroneggiare davvero queste materie, bisognerebbe provare a elaborare una Rivoluzione Solare direttamente nella propria mente, senza consultare le effemeridi, per poi “orientarla” — sempre affidandosi esclusivamente al cervello e non al computer — immaginando le diverse configurazioni celesti in funzione delle variazioni di longitudine geografica. A tal proposito, ho riportato integralmente il testo di una conferenza tenuta molti anni fa a Lavagna, in provincia di Genova, durante la quale dimostrai pubblicamente quanto sostengo in queste pagine.
Ancora un paio di cose e poi vi lascio.
Volutamente ho scelto un prezzo “esagerato” per il mercato americano: 50 dollari. Ciò vuole essere, da parte mia, un segno, un simbolo. E chi lo vuol capire lo capisca.
Spesso mi trovo a discutere con miei allievi o allieve che vorrebbero leggere diversamente da me le 34 regole.
La cosa mi fa pensare a un episodio divertentissimo che riguarda il mio libro preferito e il mio scrittore preferito: “I miserabili”, di Victor Hugo.
Quando finalmente, dopo lunghi mesi di attesa, il libro fu stampato contemporaneamente a Parigi e a New York, nell’aprile del 1862, si registrò qualcosa di eccezionale per quei tempi: già dalla sera prima si formarono lunghissime file davanti alle librerie che avrebbero venduto questo meraviglioso romanzo.
Il successo fu strepitoso.
Aumentarono a dismisura i follower dello scrittore.
Uno di essi insistette, con molte lettere, per essere ricevuto e potersi complimentare direttamente, a voce.
Hugo cedette e ricevette questo signore, che iniziò a parlare senza mai smettere. Non era assolutamente d’accordo con alcune scelte dell’autore e, a un tratto, visibilmente sconvolto, gli gridò in faccia:
«Lei non capisce niente de “I miserabili”!».
Adesso, seppure con i dovuti distinguo e sorvolando su una lettera che ricevetti da un lettore francese — uno dei primi a leggere la bellissima edizione di questo volume pubblicata dalle prestigiosissime Éditions Traditionnelles e magnificamente tradotta dalla mia amica Claudine Galtieri — nella quale vergò semplicemente: «502 pagine e non hai nominato neanche una volta Dio. Merde!», penso invece al fatto che più d’uno tra i miei allievi e allieve, talvolta, vorrebbe sfidarmi a duello sul funzionamento di una o più delle 34 regole e finisce per esclamare:
«Lei non ha capito niente delle 34 regole!».
